It is unfortunate and disappointing to witness the ongoing infighting within the Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP), with two visible groups emerging, one supporting past president Manoj Parab and the other supporting the party’s lone MLA, Viresh Borkar.
The RGP was born out of the aspirations of Goans who desired a strong regional voice to protect Goa’s identity, land, culture, heritage, demography, environment, employment opportunities, and the interests of future generations.
History shows that many political parties in India have suffered due to internal differences, leadership clashes, ego battles, and ideological disputes. Several parties weakened, split, lost public confidence, and eventually faded because their leaders failed to sit together and resolve matters amicably.
Both Manoj Parab and Viresh Borkar, along with the founding members, party workers, well-wishers, and especially the youth, have contributed significantly to the growth of the party, which succeeded in achieving over a 10% vote share.
Goans expect the RGP leadership to rise above personal differences and work unitedly for Goa. Goa and Goans deserve a strong, united, and responsible regional voice.
It is therefore earnestly hoped that, keeping the ideology and the larger interest of Goa above all else, both groups will set aside personal differences, make the necessary sacrifices, bring their respective teams together, sit at the table, resolve misunderstandings amicably, and move forward unitedly, creating a win-win situation for both groups, for the ideology, for the RGP, and above all, for Goa and Goans.
Upon reconciliation, sincere efforts should also be made for the return of Manoj Parab to the party, along with other founding members and regular members who were either relieved from, or who left, the party.
