This refers to the editorial, ‘Champion of people's issues, Bhatikar leaves behind his footprints’ and the report ‘Deadly snake bite ends Bhatikar’s life journey’ (TGE, May 16, 2026).
An insightful, informative editorial on the life of activist Dr Ketan Bhatikar. Dr Bhatikar has shown that one does not need to be a politician to serve the people; it is one’s sincerity and honesty that are important. As the editorial states, Dr Bhatikar lost two elections and, as such, he was never a legislator, but the way the State has been shaken by his death speaks volumes about his stature and character. And the crowds that thronged the streets for his funeral and attended the autopsy speak volumes.
It is unfortunate that Dr Bhatikar has fallen victim to a deadly snake bite.
Even as Goa mourns the death of Dr Bhatikar, one hopes that he will inspire others to take forward the work from where he left off.
