Panchayats must prepare before monsoon arrives

With the monsoon expected to arrive by the end of May, it is disappointing that many village Panchayat offices have still not begun pre-monsoon work in their wards. Drains remain clogged with mud, plastic bags and bottles, while several drainage slabs are broken or collapsed, blocking the smooth flow of rainwater.
Because of this careless and lazy attitude, neighbours are now fighting among themselves over the smooth flow of rainwater near their homes. Instead of solving public problems, the Panchayats are allowing tensions to grow among residents.
Every year, the same negligence leads to flooding, dirty surroundings and inconvenience for the public. The Panchayats should act well in advance instead of waking up only after heavy rains begin. People deserve clean, safe and peaceful surroundings before the monsoon knocks on our doors.
