Goan families return safely from Gulf; NRI support cell formed: CM

PANAJI: CM Pramod Sawant has clarified that there is no “Goan National,” only Goan NRIs and members of the diaspora, and the Government of Goa is extending all possible support amid the evolving situation in the Gulf.

Speaking in the House today, Sawant said the state government is in constant touch with the MEA, Indian missions in the Gulf, and the Government of India. “The situation is volatile, but there is no need to panic. Some flights and transport facilities are available for movement from these countries,” he added.

He confirmed that two Goan families have safely returned. “Anyone needing assistance can contact the Chief Minister’s Office, which is coordinating with the Indian Embassy and the Ministry of External Affairs. A dedicated cell through the NRI office has been formed to support Goans stranded in Gulf countries,” Sawant said.

He noted that Indian embassies in the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Arabia, and Bahrain have issued advisories for Indian nationals, while a virtual meeting of Chief Secretaries from states and union territories has been scheduled today to review updates, ongoing efforts by Indian missions, and support for families of affected Indians.

He also added that those facing passport issues or seeking detailed information can reach out directly to the Chief Minister’s Office, which is coordinating with the MEA.
