CANACONA

A woman has alleged that she was molested by an unidentified scooter rider on a poorly lit stretch of the Agonda-Canacona road late on Friday evening.

Canacona police have taken cognisance of the complaint and have begun an investigation into the incident.

Speaking to mediapersons, the woman said the incident occurred while she was riding her scooter from Agonda to her home in Canacona.

“As I was descending the Dumane slope at around 7.45 pm, a scooter rider came alongside me and asked for directions to Palolem beach. While I was giving him directions, he suddenly tried to touch my chest. I managed to stop him and rode ahead,” she said.

The woman added that the area was dark and had no streetlights.

“The scooter rider suddenly took a U-turn near a yellow-gated compound and rode back towards Agonda before disappearing,” she said.

Originally from Kerala, the woman said she had been living in Canacona with her husband for the past five years and had never faced such an incident in Goa before.

She later went to the Canacona police station and filed a complaint.

“I also informed the police that the road stretch has no streetlights or CCTV coverage, making it unsafe for women,” she added.
