AUTO | How summer heat affects your car

* Summer heat in India, often above 40°C, can reduce vehicle performance, durability and overall condition

* High temperatures put extra strain on the engine, battery, tyres, mechanical parts and interior

* The engine and cooling system are heavily affected, especially in slow traffic, increasing overheating risk

* Low or old coolant and stressed radiators, fans and hoses can lead to breakdowns

* Battery performance may drop due to heat, causing fluid loss, internal damage and shorter lifespan

* Tyres face higher blowout risk as heat increases air pressure and road temperature, especially at high speeds

* Underinflated tyres generate more heat through friction, raising the chance of failure

* Fuel efficiency may drop due to increased AC use and reduced combustion efficiency in hot air

* The AC system works harder; low refrigerant or dirty filters reduce cooling and increase wear

* Interior parts, electronics and paint can get damaged by prolonged sunlight and high cabin temperatures

* Fluids like engine oil, brake fluid and transmission fluid may lose effectiveness in extreme heat

* Regular maintenance”checking coolant, tyre pressure, fluids, parking in shade and servicing AC”is essential during summer
