Like Mumbai city, the suburbs are already facing a shortage of potable water. The situation in the rural regions of the State is similar, with wells having dried up. Such reports are frequently appearing in the media.
The State government is providing modern transport and well-equipped travel facilities for citizens. To ease congestion in Mumbai city, areas such as Vashi, Kalamboli, and Kharghar are collectively and attractively known as Navi Mumbai.
Going a step further, plans for a third Mumbai are being prepared. New facilities are being developed, attracting large numbers of people from neighbouring States into Maharashtra.
While this growth may help address the needs of food, clothing, and shelter for the rising population, it is equally important to consider how to ensure an adequate supply of drinking water, which is solely provided by nature.
