With the PM's call for conserving fuel in the wake of the Iran war, BJP-led politicians are trying to outdo each other in showing their efforts in this regard. CM Fadnavis in Maharashtra is taking a leading position in this matter by coming to office on a motorcycle the other day and also banning ministers from taking flights. The latter initiative seems to be misplaced since, by not being allowed to fly, the ministers will travel by road with a motorcade comprising many vehicles, wasting much more fuel than a flight would. At least in a plane, the cost gets distributed over a larger number of people and thus reduces. As for travelling by motorcycle, it is the security contingent accompanying the CM that needs to be reduced to conserve fuel. These politicians are keen to exercise visible stupidity for the consumption of the masses rather than go deeper into the matter and really do things that will result in the saving of fuel. However, the need for conserving fuel is lost on the Karnataka CM of the Congress party, who was moving about in Mysore with a 30-vehicle motorcade at the same time. Opposing actions by political parties is fine, but not in matters that seriously affect the nation, which the Congress party should realise.
