Before the elections, PM Modi had been repeatedly saying that petroleum product prices would not be increased at any cost in India. Unfortunately, less than 10 days after the election results, the prices of petrol and diesel have now been raised by more than Rs 3 per litre in the name of surging global crude prices linked to West Asia tensions and Strait of Hormuz disruptions. In Goa, petrol now costs ₹99.79 and diesel ₹91.49 per litre, while CNG prices have risen to ₹84 per kg.
It looks like the Modi government was just waiting for the elections to get over and then to start targeting the pockets of the common man by raising the prices of petrol and diesel to enjoy its own ache din in India. When the prices of crude oil were low for the last four years, had this government bothered to bring down the prices of petrol and diesel and give any benefits to consumers in India? The answer is a big no.
PM Modi is heard telling people not to waste petrol and diesel and to cut down their trips in personal vehicles due to the ongoing Middle East crisis, but is himself seen roaming around foreign countries, simply hugging world leaders in front of his own camera crew and enjoying himself. Now, isn't that most shameful on his part? Shame on such a hypocritical leader who thinks only of himself and not of the plight of his countrymen...
