Environmental cost of power-hungry AI

Let's break down the cost of Netanyahu's coffee video. The viral video is about 15 seconds long. Video generation is extremely power hungry because it creates dozens of frames coherently, not just one image. If it were fully AI generated, here's a realistic estimate of the environmental footprint using various test model studies on electricity and water use. A 15 second clip could easily need @ 3 kWh of power. That's roughly the same as charging a smartphone 10-25 times or running a household microwave non-stop for 3 hours, also @ 2 liters of water could've been consumed, That's like 5 full water bottles evaporated just for one clip. These are averages from peer reviewed reports; exact figures may vary by model/provider/efficiency gains and real videos often get multiple generations and refinements, inflating the total. In short, if that coffee clip was pure AI, it didn't just roast the rumours, it gulped enough power to keep a microwave humming for hours and sweated a few litres of water at a distant server farm.
