On one side, India is fighting anaemia among the rural poor, at the same time it must confront excess and unbalanced food consumption among both rural and urban rich and poor population of the country. Unless systematic nutritional codes are enforced by governments at both State and Centre, we should not be surprised if future generations end up on medication for non- communicable diseases right from the school age itself which will be an alarming situation since India has a very young population compared to other countries of the world. Hence measures need to be taken on a war footing to plug the irregularities in the system.
