Goa Budget 2026: Govt proposes Cooperative Ombudsman

PANAJI
The State government has proposed to introduce the concept of a “Cooperative Ombudsman” to ensure that disputes related to cooperative societies are resolved quickly and in a simplified manner.

Presenting the proposal in the State Budget, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said the initiative aims to create an independent mechanism to address grievances and conflicts within the cooperative sector, ensuring faster and more transparent resolution of disputes.

Alongside this, the government has also proposed introducing a redevelopment policy for cooperative societies in the State. The move is intended to bring uniform development in the cooperative sector while safeguarding the interests of residents. The policy will also aim to regulate redevelopment in a manner that protects the real estate sector, land resources and the environment.

The government further informed that the existing loan-cum-subsidy scheme for cooperative societies will be streamlined. Under the scheme, financial assistance will be provided for construction of office-cum-godown buildings, purchase of completed premises, expansion of cooperative spaces, and for repairs or reconstruction works.
