A real estate firm has reportedly filed a Rs 15 crore defamation case against prominent Goan activist Swapnesh Sherlekar. In my opinion, this case appears to be less about protecting reputation and more about intimidating a vocal activist who has consistently questioned large-scale projects in Goa.

I have followed Swapnesh Sherlekar’s videos, public statements, and awareness campaigns for several years. What stands out is that his views are usually backed by research, publicly available information, evidence, and facts. He has played an important role in raising concerns about issues affecting Goa’s environment, identity, and local communities.

Rather than weakening public support for activists, such legal actions may actually strengthen it. Many people who care about Goa’s future are likely to stand more firmly with genuine activists like Swapnesh. At the same time, opposition to unwanted mega projects and unchecked real estate expansion in Goa is only expected to intensify further.
