Joseph Vijay, chief of Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK), was sworn in as the new Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu at a ceremony held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium on 10 May. Vijay secured the support of Congress, IUML, VCK, CPI and CPI(M) legislators, taking the alliance tally to 120 seats, comfortably above the majority mark of 118 in the 234-member Assembly.

Governor Rajendra Arlekar had delayed inviting Vijay to form the government despite TVK emerging as the single largest party with 108 seats. Critics alleged the delay created unnecessary political uncertainty in the state.

Reel and real life are quite different, Joseph Vijay is a successful actor but here as a politician he has to face real challenges. Hopefully he will overcome obstacles if any and give clean, clear, role model administration. Supporters hope he can provide transparent, efficient and people-oriented governance in Tamil Nadu.
