Act before buildings turn deadly

There are many dilapidated buildings in Margao which require urgent demolition, but for various reasons the government and the building owners are reluctant to do so. Exposed, flaking reinforcement bars, falling plaster, vegetation growing from cracks in the structure, collapsing balcony railings, etc., pose a threat to both life and limb. Why can’t the government promulgate legislation to curb this menace before a major mishap occurs?

The general area light pole at Benaulim beach has thick electrical cables and jumbled internet wires mounted on it, and the junction box alongside has no lock on its shutters.Despite reminders to the Goa Electricity Department, no remedial action has been taken. Such abject irresponsibility not only mars the aesthetics of the place but could also very well result in mishaps in the future.
