It is becoming increasingly clear in Goa that approvals for large multi-housing projects are often granted without adequate planning or proper consideration of local concerns. Many residents feel that development is moving ahead without sufficient transparency or community consultation.

There are also growing perceptions that some local bodies may not be exercising enough scrutiny before facilitating or endorsing such projects. This has led to unease among villagers who worry about the long-term impact on infrastructure, environment and the character of their communities.

In light of the recent public awareness seen during the 39A protests, it is important for villagers to remain informed and engaged. Greater transparency and timely communication will help ensure that development takes place in a balanced and responsible manner.

Panchayats can play an important role in safeguarding local interests, and constructive participation at gram sabhas can strengthen accountability and community trust.
