In a departure from routine civic works, the village of Parra in North Goa is set to blend fitness, art and infrastructure in a single development plan, with the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) proposing a ‘Fit Street’ and an ‘Art Street’ as part of a ₹4.10-crore project for the panchayat area.
The project, announced by the GSIDC, also includes the development of the PVC football ground and beautification of the Parra church premises.
The proposed ‘Fit Street’ will cover a stretch of around 700 metres from Parra Tapri to the Sister Christabelle Trust orphanage. The plan includes a walking track, installation of outdoor fitness equipment, seating arrangements and illumination along the route.
Parra Sarpanch Daniel Lobo said the facility is intended to encourage public use, particularly among residents who frequent the stretch for morning walks. “This will be open to the public and people coming for their morning walk can make use of the fitness equipment,” Lobo said.
The project also proposes an ‘Art Street’ along a two-kilometre stretch of road from Parra Tower to the Parra“Saligao border. The road, which is a major district road, will have footpaths on both sides along with landscaping, tree plantation and lighting.
According to Lobo, the stretch will also feature installations of various art sculptures as a tribute to Goan artists, aimed at creating a distinctive public space within the village.
Infrastructure upgrades are also planned at the PVC football ground, where a small stadium with a seating capacity of around 400 spectators will be constructed. The works will include an office, conference room and changing facilities, besides the installation of floodlights.
In addition, the premises of the Parra church will be taken up for beautification with illumination under the project.
The GSIDC proposal is expected to transform key public spaces in the village by combining recreational, cultural and sports infrastructure within the panchayat limits.
