In a significant victory for Goan families, the Union Ministry of Commerce & Industry and the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) have officially confirmed that no music licence fee shall be charged for weddings and related social functions.

In a statement, Goa Forward Party President and Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai said he had  raised the issue of harassment by private agencies demanding music licence fees for weddings and social functions on the floor of the Goa Assembly on January 13, 2026.

In response, he said Chief Minister Pramod Sawant had assured to take up the matter with the central government.

Following this, Union Minister for Commerce & Industry Piyush Goyal and DPIIT have now formally confirmed the exemption, putting an end to the harassment by private agencies.

Sardesai stated that the voice of the people has been heard, and any individual or agency demanding such fees henceforth must be reported immediately to him or any Goa Forward Party office bearer.

He further warned that strict action will be sought against those attempting to extort fees under the garb of copyright claims.
