Ahead of the upcoming Budget Session of the Goa Legislative Assembly, the Core Committee of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) convened a crucial meeting on Wednesday to deliberate on key political and governance issues, including preparations for the people-centric budget and the forthcoming local body elections and Ponda by-polls.

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, who chaired the meeting, said core members covered a wide range of matters such as the upcoming Assembly session, Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) polls, the Ponda by-election and municipal elections.

Sawant said that he will ensure that a people-centric Budget is presented. He added that consultations have been held with industry representatives, while suggestions have also been invited from the general public for the State Budget.

“I have held discussions with industry representatives and sought suggestions from the general public for the Budget. I will try to present a good budget for the State,” the Chief Minister said, indicating that the government is aiming for a balanced and growth-oriented financial plan, as this could be the last State Budget of the incumbent government.

Echoing similar sentiments, Goa BJP President Damodar Naik said the Core Committee primarily focused on the upcoming Budget Session and emphasised the need for a people-centric approach.

“As a party, we have given some suggestions to the government and will ensure that whatever promises are made in the Budget reach the people,” Naik said, underlining the party’s commitment to effective implementation of schemes and announcements.

Sources said the meeting also reviewed organisational preparedness for the upcoming civic and by-elections, with party leaders stressing coordinated efforts at both the government and party levels. “It is very important that party backed panels win the CCP election, Municipal election and regain Ponda seat. The victories are crucial before we head for Assembly polls, early next year,” sources said.
