Woman found dead inside locked house

57-year-old Vaddem resident was living alone

A 57-year-old woman was found dead inside the bathroom of her locked house at Vaddem in Vasco.

The deceased has been identified as Anuradha Sawant from Vaddem, Vasco, who was reportedly living alone.

According to Vasco police, the incident came to light after they received a phone call stating that a woman had allegedly fallen inside the bathroom of a house near Pai Hospital at Vaddem and the door was locked from inside.

Police personnel rushed to the spot and found the main entrance locked. The door was later forced open in the presence of officials, after which police entered the house and found the woman lying unconscious inside the bathroom. A 108 ambulance was called and the woman was taken to the Sub-District Hospital at Chicalim, where the doctor on duty declared her brought dead.

During the inquiry, police recorded the statement of the deceased’s daughter, Priyanka Sawant, who informed them that Anuradha Sawant had been staying alone in the house.

Police later carried out the unnatural death panchanama and inquest proceedings. The body has been preserved at the South Goa District Hospital in Margao for medico-legal formalities and further examination. Vasco police have registered a case of unnatural death under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).

Further investigation is being conducted by PSI Mayur Sawant of Vasco Police Station under the supervision of PI Vaibhav Naik and guidance of Mormugao DySP Gurudas Kadam.
