The North Goa District Collector has imposed restrictions on the entry of heavy commercial vehicles (multi-axle) on the Chorla Ghat route until September 26. The decision has been taken due to dangerous monsoon conditions, including sharp bends, slippery roads and a higher risk of accidents, officials said.

The restrictions will apply to key routes, including NH-748 at Sanquelim, Honda and areas near the Goa“Belagavi border. During this period, heavy vehicles will not be allowed during the day. Limited movement will be permitted only between 10.00 pm and 5.00 am.

However, serious concerns have been raised over the implementation of this order. Similar directives were issued earlier, but in recent months there has been poor compliance.

Locals have repeatedly complained about large-scale illegal transport of sand and gravel from the Belagavi region into Goa. Despite several complaints, the alleged lack of action has drawn criticism.

While violations of the Collector’s order are reportedly continuing, no strict action has been taken so far. This has raised questions about enforcement.

Residents are now questioning whether the order exists only on paper and are demanding immediate and strict action to ensure safety and uphold the law.
