MARGAO

The two-day Purument Fest, organised by the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA), got underway at Ravindra Bhavan on Saturday.

The festival is being organised by Goemkaranchi Girestkai in collaboration with the Goa State Rural Livelihood Mission and the Directorate of Rural Development Goa. The fest will remain open to the public from 11 am to 8 pm.

PWD Minister Digambar Kamat inaugurated the two-day festival in the presence of DRDA official Deepali Naik, Chairman of Ravindra Bhavan Rajendra Talak, and others.

After visiting the stalls, Kamat said the Purument Fest would give people an opportunity to prepare for the monsoon season. He recalled his childhood days of visiting the annual Purument Fest in Margao. “This is a good attempt by the organisers to hold the Purument Fest ahead of the annual Purumentachem Fest. It not only gives a platform to local vendors to showcase their products, but also helps customers make their purchases without the usual rush,” he said.

The key objectives of the festival include promoting authentic Goan products and traditional goods; empowering local artisans, women’s self-help groups, and traditional producers; preserving Goa’s cultural and culinary heritage; encouraging organic, homemade, and seasonal produce; and boosting tourism and visibility for local enterprises.
