PORVORIM

A Rs 8.34 crore project to hotmix 11 km of roads in the Porvorim constituency was launched on Thursday. Tourism Minister and Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte inaugurated the work in the presence of ZP member Sandeep Salgaonkar, Penha de Franca Sarpanch Sapnil Chodankar, Dy Sarpanch Deepali Vernekar, panch members Narayan Naik and Siddhesh Naik, along with local residents.

Speaking on the occasion, Khaunte said many internal roads had been damaged due to digging carried out by the Electricity Department for laying underground power cables, causing inconvenience to motorists. “There was a long-standing demand from residents to hotmix the internal roads before the monsoon. Therefore, work to hotmix 11 km of internal roads has been taken up and will be completed soon,” Khaunte said.

He also said that the first phase of the sewerage system project is expected to be commissioned by October. Work on the Community Health Centre has already begun, while the Town Square project is nearing completion. The new library building is also expected to be ready within the next couple of months.

Sarpanch Sapnil Chodankar and Gokuldas Gawde also spoke on the occasion.
