Man injured in alleged firearm assault at restaurant in Poira

Two brothers booked for assault

Bicholim Police have registered a case against two brothers from Shirgao for allegedly assaulting a man and threatening him with a firearm during an incident at a bar and restaurant in Poira.  

According to police, the complaint was filed by 44-year-old Yaduvir Gaonkar, a resident of Madhalawada, Shirgao. The incident reportedly took place at around 9 pm on June 5 at Uttam Pole Bar and Restaurant in Poira.  

Police said that while the complainant was sitting with friends, one of the accused, Prajyot Gaonkar, allegedly approached the table, briefly interacted with him and left. Shortly afterwards, when the complainant asked for his bill, the second accused, Girish Gaonkar, allegedly pulled his T-shirt and pushed him to the ground without provocation.  

The complaint further states that Prajyot later returned to the spot, allegedly abused the complainant and threatened him with serious consequences. He is also accused of striking the complainant on the forehead with the barrel of a firearm while he was seated on a chair, causing a bleeding injury.  

Both accused allegedly fled the scene on a scooter after the incident.  

Based on the complaint, Bicholim Police registered Crime No. 79/2026 under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and Section 25 of the Arms Act, 1959.  

Police said both accused are already in custody in connection with another criminal case registered at Bicholim Police Station and are currently under police custody. Further investigation is in progress.
