Konkan Railway collects Rs 2.90 cr in penalties in April

The coffers of the Konkan Railway Corporation were boosted by Rs 2.90 crore last month through penalties and fines collected from unauthorised and irregular travellers.

KRCL Senior Public Relations Officer Baban Ghatge said that during April 2026, the Konkan Railway carried out 934 ticket-checking drives in addition to its regular ticket inspections. These drives detected 37,000 cases of unauthorised or irregular travel, resulting in the collection of Rs 2.90 crore towards railway fares and penalties.

He said that during the financial year 2025“26, a total of 11,394 special ticket-checking drives were conducted. These drives led to the detection of 4,99,675 cases of unauthorised or irregular travel, with recoveries amounting to Rs 27.68 crore in fares and penalties.

Konkan Railway has appealed to passengers to travel with valid tickets to avoid inconvenience during their journey. “With the summer holiday season approaching, KRCL will intensify ticket-checking drives across its entire network in coordination with Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel,” Ghatge said.
