No matter how successful a person becomes, memories of school days always remain special. And when old school friends reunite, it feels as though the sky itself has come closer. Something similar happened last Sunday when former students of Holy Cross Institute came together after a gap of nearly 50 years.

The occasion was the reunion of the SSC batch of 1975“76 of the school. The event was held at the municipal hall in Quepem. Former students not only from different parts of Goa but also those settled in the UK, the USA, and Gulf countries for work attended the gathering. Everyone appeared deeply immersed in old memories and nostalgia.

To make the reunion even more memorable, Amrit Shetkar and Kunda Borkar arrived dressed in their old school uniforms. Kunda Borkar, who is currently settled in Dubai for work, managed to attend despite the difficulties in obtaining flight tickets due to the ongoing conflict in the Gulf.

Speaking about the reunion, Borkar said, “The very thought of all the students of our batch coming together after 50 years was extraordinary for me. I had decided that I must come to Goa under any circumstances. The moment I met my classmates was one of immense joy.”

Other former students expressed similar emotions.

During the event, teachers who had taught the batch ” Vitthal Faldesai, Kalindi Kunde, Chitra Kakode, Lalita Prabhudesai, Lalita Shirvaikar, Sanjay Talwadkar, and Krishnanath Karmali ” were felicitated.

Former principal of Quepem Government College, Prabhakar Timble, attended the function as the chief guest.

Former student Sriram Kamat, who took the initiative in organising the reunion, said that the gathering revived old memories for everyone.
