PANAJI: A tourist from Bengaluru was seriously injured at Calangute Beach yesterday after reportedly being assaulted by shack staff. A video circulating online shows uniformed workers allegedly attacking him with iron rods and pipes.

The incident reportedly began when the tourist, after a swim, sat on a beach bed, triggering a confrontation with the shack staff. The situation quickly escalated, with around 15“20 workers allegedly joining the assault.

Police have arrested several shack staff members, and an investigation is underway. Reacting to the incident, Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte called it a serious incident and said authorities have issued a show-cause notice to the shack. “Failing a response, action will be taken against the shack,” he added.
