St Savio SC storm into semifinals

MARGAO

St Savio Sports Club, Calangute booked their place in the semifinals of the 18th London Trophy Inter Village Football Tournament 2026 with a narrow 1“0 victory over Navelim Villagers Union. The tournament is organised by Goa Velha Sports Club and sponsored by the Villagers of Goa Velha based in the United Kingdom.

The decisive moment came in the 21st minute when Mervin D'Souza found the back of the net to give St. Savio SC the lead. Despite sustained efforts from Navelim Villagers Union to find an equaliser, their forwards failed to capitalise on scoring opportunities.

A golden chance fell to Rovan Pereira late in the match, but his header lacked power and direction, allowing the Calangute goalkeeper to make a comfortable save.

The match also saw disciplinary action, with Rovan Pereira being cautioned, while goalscorer Mervin D'Souza was sent off by referee Jan Rodrigues.

Sahil Mhapsekar of St. Savio Sports Club was named Man of the Match. The award was presented by Willy Fernandes, Life Member of Goa Velha Sports Club, and sponsored by Joshua and Philbert Lopes.
