Right-back Lewan Castana of Mohun Bagan Super Giant Development side is scripting an exciting new chapter in his football career. Born and raised in Curtorim village, Lewan began his football journey at a young age and has steadily climbed the ranks through dedication and hard work.
A former student of St Rita’s High School, Curtorim, Lewan represented his village club in various age-group tournaments since the age of 11. His talent soon earned him a place in the FC Goa development setup, where he played a key role in helping the side clinch the Goa Professional League title.
Lewan later made his I-League debut with Indian Arrows and continued to impress with his performances. He has also represented the India Under-16 team on two occasions, showcasing his potential on the national stage.
Speaking about his immediate ambitions, Leewan said his focus is on consistently performing at a high level and earning a place in the first team of Mohun Bagan Super Giant.
“My immediate goal is to perform consistently, break into the first team of MBSG and eventually establish myself in the ISL or I-League. I want to make an impact in every game and help the team win. I’m working hard on improving my tactical understanding and overall game to reach the next level,” he said.
Lewan also expressed his desire to one day represent the senior Indian national team.
“Representing the senior Indian team is a dream for every footballer, and I’m no different. Being part of the youth national setup has taught me what it takes to improve and compete at the highest level. Right now, I’m focused on working hard every day and performing consistently. If I continue on the right path, I believe the opportunity will come,” he added.
Reflecting on the Goa Professional League, Lewan credited the competition for giving young players valuable exposure and match practice during his time with FC Goa. However, he also felt the league could become more competitive.
“The Goa Pro League helped me gain game time and develop both individually and as part of a team. But I feel the competition level can improve further. Since moving to Mohun Bagan, I’ve experienced a more competitive football environment in Kolkata, and that has really helped me grow as a player and prepare for higher levels,” Lewan stated.
