Cuncolim Union progressed to the quarterfinals of the United Trophy with a convincing 2-0 win over Carmona Sports Club at the Rosary Church Ground, Navelim, on Wednesday. The tournament is organised by the United Club of Telaulim.

The match began at a slow pace, with Carmona creating the first clear opportunity. Alison Carvalho made a strong run and unleashed a shot from inside the box, but missed the target narrowly. Soon after, Rudan threaded a through pass to Darren Estibeiro, who beat the defence and the goalkeeper but shockingly failed to convert into an open goal.

Cuncolim Union capitalised on their chance at the other end. Daulat Dessai set up Tushar Gaonkar, whose close-range effort beat the defence and the goalkeeper to give Cuncolim a 1-0 lead at half-time.

After the break, both teams stepped up the intensity. Carmona pressed hard in search of an equaliser but failed to make their chances count. Cuncolim Union sealed the victory in the final quarter of the match when Daulat Dessai found the net to double the advantage.

Tushar Gaonkar of Cuncolim Union was named Man of the Match, with the award presented by Dinesh Naik.
