Water wastage due to broken lines

During the course of repair/tar-laying work, the water pipelines laid underground invariably get cut, disrupting the water supply and causing water to flow down the drain continuously. The Water Supply Department is least bothered till some vigilant citizen approaches their office during working hours and further has to take a concerned person to show the location. The issue does not end there, as the complainant is told to arrange for material and labour, though it does not affect him.

The local elected representatives, on being approached, tend to evade the issue, saying it is not pertaining to them and that the concerned Dept has to handle it, and in the process precious water is wasted till action is taken, maybe after four or five days. One such instance has taken place, and water has been flowing in the drain for the past few days, and there will be several such incidents all over the State. There is neither a squad to patrol and attend to such incidents nor a helpline number for reporting instantly.

This is a very serious situation, allowing gallons of water to flow into drains, and we are forced to be silent spectators. Will the Govt wake up and initiate measures, streamline the process, and make local elected representatives accountable to act on it, considering it as a State issue instead of harassing citizens?
