The recent attack on a group of tourists from Bengaluru on Calangute Beach by staff of the beach shack is a sad chapter and a blot on Goa tourism and hospitality largesse, for which Goa is well known. While the incident needs to be condemned in the strongest terms, the behaviour of tourists is often found to be far from acceptable. This often happens after a few drinks, when tempers are lost and abuses are hurled at shack staff, often ending in fights and untoward incidents.

Many such cases have been reported in the past, which is why protection for staff is sometimes required by engaging the services of bouncers. Very sad but unavoidable. Tourists, on the other hand, have to be warned that stringent punishment will be accorded for misbehaviour of any sort. The law has to be applied equally to all.
