The recurring shortage of rabies vaccines in government hospitals and Primary Health Centres, including Curtorim, highlights a far more urgent crisis in public healthcare.
Despite repeated media reports highlighting the issue, the health department has failed to respond effectively. As a result, several government-run facilities in South Goa are being forced to procure vaccines from private pharmacies, significantly increasing costs for ordinary citizens. This not only undermines trust but also calls into question the very purpose and reliability of government healthcare institutions.
Goa must take urgent lessons from states like Punjab, where efficient healthcare management has ensured consistent vaccine availability and stronger public confidence. Authorities must prioritise uninterrupted supply chains, improve accountability, and strengthen infrastructure to guarantee 100% vaccine availability. Swift, transparent action is essential to safeguard both residents and tourists, and to restore faith in the public health system before the situation worsens further.
