I am increasingly coming across cases where Comunidade lands particularly in South Goa are being used fraudulently, to benefit specific hotel projects or residential multi housing units now more so to “cash rich” real estate sharks from outside Goa. Quite a few of the these cases date to at least 20 years back and counting to our current time ! There are cases even where sand dunes/fields/low lying areas belonging to comunidades are violated. I suspect specific comunidade members are involved in these multi-core deals and if a judicial enquiry is done, the extent of the scam will rock the state and will surely prosecute/jail the erring comunidade members. Yes surely local panch (ex- panch members) and other local criminal land grabbing rackets are also involved here, but the main fault stems from the specific highly corrupt gaunkars, who are selling off what our ancestors worked hard to create for posterity. And needless to say some other gaunkars aware of the same are remaining silent spectators.
