On Saturday, Goa celebrated the centenary of Mario Miranda, a towering cultural figure, with pride and admiration. Exhibitions, discussions, and cultural events honored the artist whose work brought Goan life to the global stage with wit, color, and charm. His art reached far beyond India, with exhibitions in over 20 countries and collaborations with renowned international cartoonists.

Miranda’s brilliance lay in his ability to tell stories without barriers. Through expressive characters and detailed scenes, he captured everyday life while reflecting social realities with gentle humor. His work invited the world to experience Goa’s unique spirit.

In recognition of his immense contribution, he received some of India’s highest civilian honors, including the Padma Bhushan and the Padma Vibhushan (posthumously). Installing his statues in every Ravindra Bhavan across the state would be a fitting tribute.

Such memorials could inspire young artists to observe, interpret, and celebrate their surroundings, keeping alive the legacy of a man who transformed the ordinary into something extraordinary.
