A 22-year-old tourist's vehicle was partially swept by waves after it got stuck on Vagator Beach on Sunday morning, in yet another instance highlighting reckless driving by visitors on the State's beaches. Officials have stated that the car was driven in a rash and negligent manner on the beach and into the water, thereby endangering human life and violating established safety norms that prohibit vehicles from entering coastal stretches. Of course, the owner of the vehicle to desperately save himself is now heard making up his own story, claiming that he had handed over his vehicle to hotel staff for washing and had not authorised it to be taken onto the beach. The question is how did the said vehicle land on the beach in the first place? I think that the police should impose hefty fines against all such people who are found driving their vehicles on beaches/doing dangerous stunts. They should also make them rot in prison for 3 - 5 years and thus discipline à ll other unruly domestic tourists.
