Govt should probe assault on advocate at Dhargal

The Mapusa Advocates Forum (MAF) has strongly condemned the physical assault on Advocate Sadanand Vaigankar, calling the incident an attack not only on an individual lawyer but also on the justice system and the legal fraternity. It should be noted that Adv Vaigankar was allegedly assaulted by a group of locals in Dhargal in broad daylight last Friday while performing his professional duties and conducting a panchanama of three constructions, in the presence of police and government officials. Well, this incident clearly shows that law and order has totally collapsed in the state and with such violent attacks now happening even on lawyers in the presence of police and government officials, it looks like Goa is slowly turning into another lawless state like UP, if not Bihar and Jharkhand. I think that the State government should conduct a thorough investigation into the above incident at the very earliest and bring all the accused (whether they belong to BJP, Congress, Goa Forward Party or RGP) involved in this particular case to book to henceforth ensure the safety of advocates and members of the legal fraternity in Goa.
