The exposure of the alleged ₹1,000-crore tender fraud in Goa’s Public Works Department has once again raised serious concerns about corruption in the state’s infrastructure sector. Over the years, several allegations involving irregular contracts, poor-quality roads, and illegal recruitment practices have repeatedly surfaced, damaging public trust in the system. Unfortunately, neither contractors nor engineers appear committed to serving the common people; instead, many seem more interested in personal gain. There have been numerous instances in the past where contracts were allegedly awarded without proper procedures or transparency. People are well aware that corruption is slowly eating away at the foundations of the state. Goa has witnessed enough controversies in the public works sector, with each scandal further weakening confidence in governance and accountability. The culture of opaque tendering and cosy contractor relationships must come to an end. Authorities must conduct a fair and transparent investigation and take strict action against anyone found guilty of forgery, misuse of power, or corruption. Goa’s deeply rooted corruption can only be eradicated through honest leadership and strong political will.
