An ancient creek flowing from a natural spring in Vaddem, Vasco da Gama, once carried tidal waters in rhythm with the sea and supported a rich variety of fish. Its laterite stone embankments still reflect the care our ancestors took to preserve this natural waterway. However, over the past two decades, this once-living creek has been reduced to a stagnant, polluted drain. Today, it is choked with plastic waste, garbage, and invasive weeds, while untreated sewage is being discharged into it from nearby residences. This has not only destroyed its ecological balance but also poses serious health risks to residents and contributes to marine pollution as it drains into the Zuari estuary. At a time when there is increasing awareness about conserving water bodies, such neglect is both alarming and unacceptable. Immediate action is needed to clean, dredge, and restore the creek, and to stop further contamination. I urge the concerned authorities to act without delay and revive this vital natural resource.
