This refers to the editorial, ‘Reckless drivers taking traffic police for a ride’ (TGE, May 23). That was an informative, hard-hitting editorial on reckless driving. There is no doubt that the situation is serious and calls for immediate major measures to curb reckless driving and ensure the safety of innocent passers-by. And the worrying part is that the youth are involved in acts of reckless driving. They must come to the realisation that there is somebody waiting for them at home and for those passing by on the roads.
In cities like Mumbai too, we have such incidents and we also have this menace of wrong-side driving, catching people unawares and leading to avoidable accidents. Traffic sense and civic sense, of course, seem to be completely absent in our country. Such violators also need to be counselled and if that does not help, then it is time to ‘CRACK THE WHIP!’
