MARGAO

The Telaulim gram sabha on Sunday has resolved to request the Water Resources Department to entrust the work of building bhandaras in the village to the village Panchayat.

At the meeting chaired by Sarpanch Frenny Baretto, gram sabha members pointed out that the responsibility of building the bhandaras and its upkeep and maintenance should be handed over to the local panchayat body.

Deputy Sarpanch Estevan Goes later told the media that resolution was taken by the gram sabha members so that there is no early opening of the bhandaras in the village. He said members pointed out  that water in the bhandaras was released in March itself this year for the purpose of fishing, leaving the water bodies dry.

“The gram sabha members has now adopted a resolution demanding that the WRD entrust the responsibility of building the bhandaras to the Panchayat body with a condition to release the water for fishing only around April end or the first week of May”, Goes said.

Meanwhile, the gram sabha adopted another resolution demanding that the Power department expedite illumination of the approach road to the Telaulim-Varca bridge. Members expressed concern over the long delay by the Power department in taking up the work of illumination of the road.

Meanwhile, Goes informed that gram sabha members have decided to approach the Town and Country Planning department on the question of maintaining open spaces in relation of the plots made in the 90’s.
