Saligao Festival 2026 opens with cultural grandeur, devotional spirit

Saligao Festival 2026 commenced on a vibrant note, showcasing a rich blend of cultural heritage and spiritual traditions. The grand opening witnessed an enthusiastic turnout of residents, tourists, and cultural enthusiasts, transforming the constituency into a hub of celebration and unity.

The inaugural day began with a traditional Dindi procession, symbolizing devotion and collective spirit, as participants moved through the venue to rhythmic chants and music. The energy continued with dynamic Dhol-Tasha performances, captivating the audience and setting an electrifying tone for the festivities.

Adding a spiritual dimension to the evening, performances such as Ganesh Vandana and the powerful Shiva Tandav mesmerized attendees, reflecting the deep-rooted cultural ethos of the region. A key highlight of the event was the Abhang Repost, which beautifully fused devotional music with artistic expression, celebrating the enduring legacy of Bhakti traditions.

The event was graced by prominent dignitaries including Kedar Naik, Chairman of the Goa Tourism Development Corporation and MLA of Saligao Constituency; Rohan A. Khaunte, Minister for Tourism, Government of Goa; Kuldeep Arolkar, Managing Director of GTDC; Reshma Bandodkar, North Goa ZP Adhyaksha; Kalpesh Naik, Sarpanch of Guirim Panchayat; Ajay Govekar, Deputy Sarpanch of Pilerne; Gauresh Madkaikar, BJP Saligao President; Gavin Dias, General Manager (Marketing), GTDC; and Deepak Narvekar, Deputy General Manager (Marketing), GTDC, along with other officials and local representatives.

Addressing the gathering, Kedar Naik emphasized that the festival has been envisioned in alignment with the auspicious occasion of Gudi Padwa, marking the Hindu New Year. He noted that the initiative aims to preserve and promote Goa’s cultural heritage, devotional traditions, and community bonding, expressing satisfaction over the overwhelming response on the very first day.

The festival is set to continue with an exciting lineup of cultural, musical, and traditional programs, further strengthening Saligao’s cultural identity.
