PANAJI
Rohit Monserrate, who has already made history by becoming the only Mayor to complete five consecutive years in office, is set to continue in the top post.
Monserrate will be elected as Mayor of the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP), while Vasant Agshikar is set to take over as Deputy Mayor on Monday, when the newly elected council meets to choose its leadership on Monday.
The elections will be held during the first meeting of the newly constituted corporation at 11 am on Monday. With no other nominations filed for either post, both Monserrate and Agshikar are expected to be elected unopposed.
The meeting will also mark the constitution of key committees, including the standing committee and other consultative bodies, as mandated under the City of Panaji Corporation Act.
Monserrate is expected to continue as Mayor until the forthcoming Assembly elections, scheduled in early 2027, and is likely to contest the polls.
