MARGAO
Many areas of Chinchinim, Assolna, Cuncolim and surrounding areas had to go without power supply last night after strong winds uprooted trees, blocked roads and snapped overhead electric wires.
Chinchinim villagers bore the brunt once again as many parts of the village went without power supply for hours together. Areas at Durga and other localities witnessed a power outage at around 8 pm after strong winds hit the village. Chinchinim Panchayat member Gerson Gomes told the media that power supply was restored at Durga only at around 5 pm on Monday, after nearly 20 hours.
He said power supply to Durga was cut off after an electric pole came down in the low-lying field.
What’s worse, he said, was the oft-repeated complaint from power consumers that there was no staff around to respond to queries over the status of the power restoration work.
Velim MLA Cruz Silva and Gomes called Chief Electrical Engineer Stephen Fernandes seeking his intervention to expedite the power restoration work in the village.
