The repercussions of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East are being felt in the State, as a shortage of commercial LPG cylinders has severely impacted businesses in the State.

A number of cafes, hotels and restaurants in Bardez taluka are likely to shut operations from Thursday, on account of the shortage of LPG cylinders.

“A gas distribution agency has stopped the supply of LPG cylinders and gas in our cylinders is running out. Due to this, we will have to shut our business,” informed a hotelier Mohan Sawant.

As rumours began to spread regarding the shortage of LPG cylinders, customers gathered outside a gas distribution agency in Mapusa on Wednesday to book cylinders.

Responding to the concerns of LPG shortage, a local gas distributor said although there are currently some restrictions on commercial LPG cylinders, there is an adequate supply of domestic cylinders.

“Home delivery of cylinders will continue regularly from Thursday. Therefore, customers should not fall prey to rumours and rush to book cylinders,” the dealer said.
