PANAJI: Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has reduced his official convoy in response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal for fuel conservation and austerity measures amid the ongoing global energy crisis.

In a post on social media, Sawant said he has “kept only one vehicle” as part of efforts to reduce fuel consumption and support the Centre’s larger call for economic prudence. He also said the Goa government is considering introducing an electric vehicle for his official use as part of the state’s broader push towards sustainable and cost-effective measures.

The move comes after Modi, while addressing a public gathering in Hyderabad on Sunday, urged citizens to reduce petrol and diesel consumption, avoid unnecessary travel, and adopt more energy-efficient practices due to rising global uncertainties and supply chain disruptions impacting India’s economy.

The Prime Minister also encouraged wider use of public transport, carpooling, railways for goods transport, and quicker adoption of electric vehicles. Alongside fuel saving measures, Modi appealed to citizens to postpone non-essential foreign travel and gold purchases for a year, while also reducing edible oil consumption and gradually shifting towards locally made products.
