The Gram Sabha of Village Panchayat Chinchinim-Deussua on Sunday unanimously passed a resolution seeking enhancement of the financial powers of the Sarpanch and passed the annual Budget for the financial year 2026“2027.
At the meeting chaired by Sarpanch Frank Viegas, which passed the annual budget estimates for the financial year 2026-27, the Gram Sabha adopted the resolution to enhance the powers of the Sarpanch to sanction developmental works up to Rs one lakh without inviting quotations or tenders, as against the existing limit of Rs 5,000.
The proposal aims to ensure quicker execution of urgent developmental works and improve efficiency in addressing local civic issues for the benefit of the villagers.
The Sarpanch told the media after the meeting that members of the Gram Sabha expressed that increasing the sanctioning powers would help the Panchayat undertake minor infrastructure and public welfare works without unnecessary delays, thereby strengthening grassroots governance and local self-development, which will be brought to the attention of the Panchayat Minister.
Also, Gram Sabha members brought to the attention of the Chair the need to increase the disaster management fund. They demanded that the disaster management fund given to the panchayat bodies by the government before the monsoon should be enhanced for better planning and utilisation.
