Woman dies after being hit by Thar in Vasco

Driver booked for rash, negligent driving in Alto Mangoor

A woman who suffered serious head injuries after being knocked down by a Mahindra Thar at Alto Mangoor, Vasco on Saturday has died while undergoing treatment. Following her death, Vasco police have registered a criminal case against the driver.  

The deceased, Genadevi Jaiswar of Sasmollem, Baina, Vasco, was walking along the side of the road from Mangoor Hill towards Taniya Hotel when the accident took place at around 12.15 pm. The incident occurred opposite La-Rose Building, near the Hero showroom at Alto Mangoor.  

According to police, the Mahindra Thar was being driven by Abhijit Rane of Orolim, Vasco. He was travelling from Taniya Hotel towards Mangoor Hill Circle when the vehicle allegedly struck the pedestrian. The impact caused her to fall on the road and suffer serious injuries to the back of her head.  

Jaiswar was first taken to the Sub-District Hospital at Chicalim and later shifted to Manipal Hospital. She was subsequently referred to Goa Medical College (GMC), Bambolim, where she succumbed to her injuries.  

After conducting inquiries into the accident, Vasco police registered an offence against the driver under Sections 281 and 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.  

The investigation is being carried out by PSI Akanksh Fadte Dessai of Vasco Police Station under the supervision of PI Vaibhav Naik and the guidance of Mormugao DySP Gurudas Kadam.
