Valpoi yet to complete pre-monsoon works as drains remain clogged An open drain with damaged concrete slabs and missing paver blocks on a footpath in Valpoi has been barricaded, posing inconvenience and safety concerns for pedestrians ahead of the monsoon season.

VALPOI

With only a few days left before the monsoon arrives, cleaning and desilting of rivers and drains within the Valpoi Municipal Council area have not yet begun. Garbage and waste continue to remain accumulated in several drains and water channels in the town. Several areas are also facing issues due to clogged drains ahead of the rainy season.

The municipality was expected to complete its pre-monsoon preparations before the onset of the monsoon. However, a survey of the municipal area found that waste remains accumulated in drains at several locations. Once the rains begin, this waste could flow into nearby rivers and water bodies. Residents have urged the municipality to speed up pre-monsoon works.

Drains Still Choked

Waste from the town has accumulated in drains and riverbeds at several locations, resulting in pollution in many drains.

A large portion of the waste consists of plastic, which may eventually enter rivers and other water bodies during the monsoon.

Desilting work has not yet been completed. With May drawing to a close and pre-monsoon showers expected, there are concerns that water from the drains may flow directly into nearby rivers.

Potholes on Footpaths

Footpaths built across the Valpoi municipal area have reportedly become parking spaces for vehicles in some places.

Waste has also accumulated in the gutters beneath these footpaths. In several locations, paver blocks have been removed, leaving open pits on the footpaths.

The Deputy Collector of Sattari taluka had earlier directed the municipality and concerned departments to take corrective measures. However, the issues remain unresolved in several parts of the town.
