Valpoi Health Officer Dr Vikas Naik said awareness campaigns have already begun to educate people on preventing water stagnation and mosquito breeding. He has appealed to citizens to maintain cleanliness in their surroundings, avoid storing stagnant water near homes, and strictly follow the guidelines issued by the health department.
AWARENESS CAMPAIGN
The department has launched a special awareness drive to educate residents about diseases such as dengue, malaria, typhoid, and gastroenteritis, how these illnesses spread, and what preventive measures should be taken.
Employees attached to the Valpoi CHC are visiting homes and guiding residents. Informational pamphlets are also being distributed among the public.
Although Sattari’s vast geographical spread poses certain logistical challenges, instructions have been issued to ensure that every household receives proper guidance. Health teams are touring different villages and focusing on creating awareness about hygiene and sanitation.
DRAINAGE MANAGEMENT
Mindful that diseases like malaria, dengue, chikungunya, and typhoid tend to spread rapidly during the monsoon, the Valpoi CHC has initiated measures to ensure that water does not accumulate anywhere.
Special attention is being given to construction sites, where contractors have been instructed to maintain proper drainage systems and prevent water storage. Dr Naik warned that strict action would be taken against those failing to comply with the instructions.
IRRIGATION CHAMBERS
Several irrigation chambers constructed by the WRD in horticultural areas of Sattari often collect stagnant water during the rainy season, increasing the risk of mosquito breeding. The Valpoi CHC has already communicated necessary instructions to the WRD regarding this issue.
According to Dr Naik, WRD staff cooperate with the CHC every year. Once the required personnel become available, a special drive will be undertaken to prevent mosquito breeding in these chambers.
AGRICULTURE, PLANTATIONS
Rainwater accumulation in agricultural and plantation zones can create ideal conditions for mosquito larvae to grow, leading to the emergence of thousands of mosquitoes and serious public health concerns.
Hence, farmers and plantation owners have been urged to ensure that water does not stagnate in their fields or surrounding areas.
Valpoi CHC teams will continue inspecting various regions in Sattatri taluka and action will be taken wherever necessary.
